An apple a day keeps the doctor away – and wrinkly skin too! Sumayyah Meehan shares some recipes to help keep your skin firm and young-looking.

Apples are potent beauty resources, full of alpha- hydroxy acids that help to remove dull skin to reveal the beauty that lies beneath. Apples are also bursting with pectin that helps to keep skin firm and young-looking. They also contain huge quantities of Vitamin A & C which help to wake-up the slumbering collagen in your skin and preserves elasticity

 

 

 

Apple Lip Gloss

To soften, shimmer and shine

 

Ingredients:

• 4 tbs. beeswax – melted 1 tbs. Glycerine
• 5 tbs. olive oil
• 3 tbs. apple juice

 

 

Method:

Melt the wax slowly over a double boiler (a pot of boiling water with an empty pot on top of it). Make sure that the water does not get into the wax! Slowly add the other ingredients and stir slowly with a wooden spoon. Transfer the mixture into an airtight plastic container. Leave to solidify. Use as you would any other lip-gloss!

 

 

 

Lemony Apple Scrub

To brighten, polish and rejuvenate

 

 

Ingredients:

• 1⁄2 small apple – mashed 1 tbs. milk
• 1⁄2 tsp. apple cider vinegar 1 tbs. ground oats

• 1⁄2 tsp. ground almonds
• 1⁄2 tsp. lemon zest – grated

 

 

Method:

Vigorously mix and mash all the ingredients in a small bowl with a fork. Allow to rest for 15 minutes. Use to scrub all over your face and body (elbows, knees, etc.)

 

 

 

Apple & Sage Face Mask

To purify, soften & tone

 

 

Ingredients:

• 1 large apple – pureed
• 3 tbs. honey
• 1⁄4 cup minced sage leaves

 

 

Method:

In a small bowl, add all the ingredients and let them sit for about 10 minutes. Apply to a freshly washed face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse.
