As a single mother to a three-year-old little boy and a revert to Islam, Allahumma Barik, raising my son in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah is very important to me. As I did not grow up with Muslim parents and have not experienced an Islamic upbringing, this has certainly been a big learning curve for me. Being a parent is a responsibility placed on us by Allah (SWT) and one that we will be questioned about in the hereafter.
The Prophet (SAW) said, “All of you are shepherds and will be held responsible for his flock.” (Narrated by Bukhari; 583 & Muslim; 1829)
It is also our duty to bring up our children from a young age to love Allah and his Messenger (SAW) and to follow and love the teachings of Islam, as well as instilling good manners and character into our children In Shaa Allah.
“Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the pious (al muttaqun).” (Al-Furqaan 25:74)
There is so much to learn and adhere to in raising our children upon righteousness and obedience to Allah and his Messenger (SAW). Being a parent can certainly feel overwhelming at times, but Alhamdulillah there are some amazing books to help guide us… I wanted to share some of my favourite Islamic Parenting books with you that have helped guide and educate me in raising my son Islamically and understanding my duties as a Mother.

“..From the child the Ummah is formed. Whatever the child’s condition and upbringing is today, then the condition of this nation in the future (will be a reflection of this). From this we can understand that all individuals from this nation will pass through the school of the mother.”
